What Does Celebration Mean to You?

Soon after attending a 3 day conference honoring the Devine Feminine in Assisi, Italy the music came on to signify the finish of the gathering. And then some thing wonderful happened: a single immediately after yet another, the ladies in the audience spontaneously rose to the music, swaying, twisting, and turning in celebration of our feminine essence. We danced uninhibited, letting the music flow by means of us. Feeling light of physique and heart, I moved carefree as a youngster imitating a nymph in the forest. We literally floated house. Why do not we celebrate extra typically, I wonder?

At a recent workshop an attendee asked me, “How do you celebrate?” Her query made me cease and feel. Our techniques of celebration should really be as individual as we are, but they are so typically relegated to following meaningless dogma. For some, celebration means chocolate, balloons, or fine wine, and for others it is a wild 50th birthday party with the proviso, “what occurs in Vegas…” Yet regardless of our favored mode of celebration, they almost normally connote familiar traditions on calendar holidays, rather than an individual lead to for celebration. Moreover, if you happen to be the 1 responsible for offering the meals, gifts, and decorations, these events can be exhausting, to the point that they never really feel like celebrations at all!

The bottom line is that for all our “celebrations,” we ladies have not felt worthy of celebrating ourselves. It is time to believe about claiming our right to “bask in the glory” of who we are by obtaining some celebrations that capture our exceptional spirit and personality. After Dinner Speakers are some concepts for developing our personal rituals:

1) Honor your loved ones and friends. One particular reader emailed to tell me about a pub-crawl that her aunt organized for her matriarchal family line. The youngest of the group was 16 (shhh!) and the oldest was 88 (ladies weren’t permitted in the beer parlor in her day). They had tons of entertaining celebrating their membership in a strong and admirable group of females.

An additional pal celebrates a thing she calls “Ancestor Day.” She gathers loved ones and offers tributes to those who have gone before her. Celebrating the roots and values that give her life which means is enriching. But the pleasure begins with the reality that the date and theme are of her decision – no a single at the leading of a hierarchy is telling her how or when to celebrate!

two) Make it important to you. Peggy Holt, an instructor at Canyon Ranch, describes how a single day every single year she celebrated “Holt Holiday” with her young children. Immediately after waking them she would surprise them with an unexpected alter in routine – rather than getting hurried off to school, they would take the day off to play with the family members! Now that her kids are grown they continue this ritual by possessing these annual celebration days with their own youngsters.

To develop your personal ritual, ask your self what offers you power and honor that. Get started by obtaining a date that holds particular meaning. Then celebrate with some thing that is enjoyable for you. Last year on my birthday I invited women to a dinner exactly where we celebrated femininity by undertaking the Yoni dance. I also make a point of celebrating the new mobility that came with losing 100 pounds. In my recent travels, I’ve celebrated with activities including zip lining, trekking, and white water rafting. Every activity is elating!

three) Celebrate much more by doing much less. Sometimes we consider we need to have to organize a significant celebration, but little points can be even much more enjoyable. Some thing as uncomplicated as obtaining a book and taking time to reflect on it can be celebratory. The sixth Stilletto Step is Self-Celebration, which means that rather than obtaining co-opted into the masculine energy of often doing something, we ought to as an alternative celebrate by enhancing our inner encounter.

The very best celebrations are outward manifestations reflecting who we are, which is what happened with our spontaneous dancing in Assisi. What could you do to celebrate the specific and exceptional person that you are?
